Tips to make written output sound less generic

Toqan, like many other generative AI tools, can sometimes give you generic output if you don’t give it enough information to make it closer to what you sound like. Here are some tips to improve the written output.

Tell it what style you want

Consider how you usually write or talk to your team. If you’re casual and informal, indicate that in your prompt. With an informal tone, tell Toqan to add contractions (so “it’s” versus “it is”). Or if you use certain phrases and words, include that in your prompt.

Give Toqan as much info about your style so it can get close to what you would’ve sounded like if you wrote from scratch.

There are many styles to use. Try these: funny, empathetic, formal, factual, scientific, soothing, playful, calming, energetic, confident, gentle, snarky, punny, cutesy, relaxed, respectful.

Think about what feeling you want to evoke in your audience, then choose a style that matches it.

You can also ask Toqan to review what it’s written to assess if the output meets the feeling you wanted.

Tell it what you don’t want

How many emails have you received that starts with: “I hope you are well” or “I hope this email finds you well”? Well, it often doesn’t – and many people don’t like reading it so tell Toqan not to start the email with that overused phrase.

You can also save this rule in your personalisation settings. Find out how to do that HERE – ADD LINK.

If there are any other words or phrases you want to exclude – especially if your company has rules about certain things – tell Toqan specifically not to include them.

Give it examples of your preferred writing style

Provide Toqan with samples of your previous writing or the style of writing you want to copy. Upload them to Toqan or save it in your asset library so you can reference them frequently.

Provide an online reference

If your company has a lot of online communication (for example, blog posts or a press centre), give Toqan the URL of your company website and tell it to use it as a reference for the output you want.

Tell it what kind of language rules to follow

Do you use American English or British English? Brazilian Portuguese or Portuguese? A particular kind of local language or dialect? Tell Toqan to use the rules of your language in all writing and editing. You can also set this in your personalisation settings.
