Prompting for beginners: give it data

The more data you give Toqan when you’re asking it to do something, the better. Your output will be far closer to what you want if Toqan has information that can help shape its response.

In this example, Toqan is asked to edit a piece of copy. The basic prompt ensured that there were no spelling errors, according to whatever editing tools Toqan drew from as it processed the query. In the other prompt, data is given in the form of a style guide that Toqan should use to edit the content.

The prompt for a basic editing request: Edit this copy. List the spelling, grammar and style errors.

A prompt using a style guide, which is extra data Toqan can use to provide a better output: Edit this copy that I need to submit in my report to our board of directors. List the spelling, grammar and style errors. Refer to the attached document as a reference for the style the final version needs to be in.

This is just an example of a style guide but you could use this technique for many other things, including:

• When writing emails, speeches or articles, give Toqan examples of what you’ve written before so it can have a comparison to ensure it gets close to your preferred writing style.
• Share your company profile when working on strategic research or reviews.
• Give it your company corporate identity when writing or editing official documents.
• Give it relevant policy documents when creating an internal communications for your business.

There are many ways you can give Toqan insights that will help it to give you a better outcome.
