Generating images for presentations and other communication

You can use Toqan to produce great images for any form of communication – presentations, newsletters, marketing material, storyboarding, projects, vision boards, strategy documents. The list goes on. Try these tips to improve your output.

Be specific

The more detailed you are, the better. Include details about the subject, style and mood you want. Don’t just say “a cat”. Rather say “a fluffy white cat sitting on a sunny windowsill”. See the difference in these examples using these two prompts. The image on the left has elements you might not have wanted in your picture, like a butterfly.

Use descriptive language

Use descriptive words, adjectives and adverbs to make the image come alive. Instead of saying “an office environment”, say “a trendy, tech-savvy office environment with laptops, whiteboards and happy looking people.

Reference artistic styles

You can reference artistic styles to get to a specific visual effect. For example, say “inspired by Van Gogh” or “in the style of a comic book”.

The prompts for these outputs: Generate an image of a young woman working on her laptop. She’s smiling and sipping coffee. In the style of a comic book/a cool digital art /Japanese anime

Define the perspective and composition

Give an indication of how to frame  the image. Is it a “close-up portrait” or a “wide landscape view”? Is it “a bird’s eye view” or “looking up from the ground” or “from the bottom up”?

In this example, an image of the Eiffel Tower is very different thanks to the small differences in these prompts: Generate an image of the Eiffel tower. View: looking up from the ground. Generate an image of the Eiffel Tower. Bird’s eye view

Indicate lighting

Describe the lighting conditions – is it “golden-hour light” or “harsh shadows under a midday sun”? Is it “studio lighting” or ”natural outdoor light”?

These images both start with the same prompt: Generate an image of a group of men chatting. The second part differs: “natural golden light” is the one, and “harsh shadows in the midday sun” is the other.

Give colour direction

Mention specific colours if you want them. In the examples below, the prompt all start with the same thing: Generate an image of an empty desk with a laptop resting on it and a cup of coffee next to it. What differs is the second part: “pastel colours”, “vibrant, bright colour”, “a monochrome blue palette”.

Iterate, iterate, iterate!

The best way to figure out what prompts work is to keep trying by changing the prompts until you get closer to your ideal image. You’ll figure out what style you like most and you can save those prompts in your prompt library.
